Laing O'Rourke's total capability and experience enables us to offer an integrated multi-disciplined design and construct engineering solution, taking into account whole-of-life cycle costing including maintenance and operations. By drawing on the experience of our committed workforce, we can provide genuine savings in construction programme and capital costs.
As world leaders in bulk materials handling, we've designed and constructed hundreds of kilometres of advanced conveyor systems. These systems often incorporate long single flights, horizontal curves, regenerative braking and advanced control systems.
Laing O'Rourke's services also includes a fully multi-disciplined permanent in-house design office specialising in materials handling applications, supplemented as necessary with our leading edge technology partner CDI to ensure clients gain the benefit of energy efficient and low maintenance assets.
Disciplines include:
- civil construction
- earthworks
- electrical (control systems)
- mechanical / piping
- structural
- electrical (power)
Systems and Equipment include:
- stackers / reclaimers
- rail loadout systems
- bulk materials handling plant
- shiploaders
- overland conveyor systems
- underground conveyor systems
Blackwater Coal Handling Preparation Plant, Blackwater, Queensland
This project is Australia's largest ever turnkey design and construct coal handling and preparation plant contract, undertaken in joint venture. The team provided a fully integrated multi-disciplined design with plant capacity to produce 14mtpa, replacing Blackwater Mine's existing North, South and Thermal plants.
FEATURES:
- receiving plant for Run of Mine coal
- crushing and screening plant
- 60,000t raw coal stockpile/blending bed
- two module 1,800tph wash plant
- 450,000t product coal stockpile
- two traveling, slewing, luffing stackers
- two portal reclaimers
- train-loading system to load 7,000t trains in 1.4 hours
- all civil work, structural, piping and mechanical works
- all high and low voltage electrical works
- instrumentation works
- plant control systems and operator controls
- commissioning of the total project.
BENEFITS:
- over 30 years coal mine infrastructure works experience, particularly in materials handling facilities
- application of current coal handling and processing technology reducing overall operating costs
- improvements in mine efficiency from the new generation plant, contributing significantly to the mine's long-term sustainability
- construction of the new plant will allow the decommissioning of the South Blackwater rail spur and loop, which will open up access to significant reserves which are presently sterilised.
