Busselton Floodgates, Western Australia
This project involved reconstructing two floodgates at Wonnerup and Vasse River sites in Busselton.
FEATURES:
- constructing earth cofferdams around the two sites
- dewatering river beds on a 24 hour a day 7 days a week basis using spears, ring manifolds and portable generators and pumps
- installing PVC sheetpiles into the river beds
- constructing reinforced concrete structures, with stainless steel gates, mechanical/electrical actuators
- design and constructing remote controlled gate monitoring and activating systems
- commissioning new works
- demolishing old floodgates.
The construction method included an alternative design of the temporary cofferdam works, allowing the entire site to be dewatered and accessed at once. A river deviation faciltiy and emergency flood procedure was also provided.
BENEFITS:
Adherence to strict safety and environmental management ensured there were no lost time injuries or environmental incidents.
The project team dismantled and installed part of the old strucutre at he Butter Factory Museum for the historical society at no cost to the client.
