South-east Queensland boom a boon for building business
South-east Queensland’s booming population has led to two recently-awarded projects for Laing O’Rourke’s Building North group.
The group will undertake the Gold Coast Convention Centre expansion as well as the new Willawong Bus Depot in suburban Brisbane.
The Gold Coast Convention Centre expansion, for the Queensland Government, will double the size of the exhibition hall. An additional 3000m2 of exhibition hall space will be built to keep up with demand for space at the convention centre.
It is a nice fit for Laing O’Rourke as the company’s annual Summer Bash will be held in the convention centre in February. The works are due to be completed by the end of the year.
The new Willawong Bus Depot project for the Brisbane City Council involves building a bus area for 200 buses, an administration building, a workshop for bus servicing, refuelling facility, staff carparking area and associated works. It is expected to be completed in early 2009.
South East Queensland area manager Glenn Rashleigh said both projects were secured from select list tenders with the Willawong works resulting from non-price criteria.
“They are ideal projects being with excellent clients and a comfortable size to supplement the larger projects we expect to get under way later next year,” he said.
