Laing O’Rourke has been appointed as construction partner for National Grid’s Great Grid Partnership programme, which forms part of a £9bn supply chain framework which will also support infrastructure projects beyond 2030.

The initial tranche of work includes the delivery of new overhead lines, underground cabling, new substations construction alongside upgrades to existing substations.

The Great Grid Partnership is a collaborative enterprise delivery model which aims to coordinate the planning and execution of projects. It will allow each supplier and National Grid to pool their resources, skills, insights and experience to deliver faster and more economically – ensuring value for money for consumers and benefiting local communities with a lasting impact.

A total of five construction partners and two design partners have been selected to deliver the programme.

This is a fantastic project of strategic national importance, and we are proud and excited to be a part of it. We will harness our extensive experience of delivering mega-infrastructure projects, our digital design capabilities and knowledge of modern methods of construction to deliver the project successfully together with National Grid and our delivery partners, each of which was selected based on their ability to deliver power transmission projects.
